Climbing Higher: Progress on the OLV Dome Restoration with GWFab’s Custom Ladders
As spring returns to Western New York, work has resumed on one of the region’s most iconic landmarks—the majestic dome of Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica in Lackawanna. And once again, General Welding & Fabricating is proud to be part of the journey.
Reaching New Heights—Literally
With the break in winter weather, the restoration team is back on-site, climbing the custom dome-access ladders we manufactured specifically for this historic project. Designed for safety, durability, and functionality, these ladders are critical tools that allow workers to scale the towering structure and restore it with precision and care.
This isn’t just any ladder—this is a GWFab-built ladder, engineered to withstand the elements and built for the toughest restoration conditions.
A Mission to Preserve History
The OLV Dome, originally constructed over 100 years ago, is being restored as part of the “Save the Dome” initiative, a $3 million campaign to replace the deteriorating copper with brand-new material. The damage from a century of Buffalo’s intense weather made this project vital, not only for the preservation of the structure but to prevent further interior damage from water infiltration.
The goal? Complete restoration by May 2026, just in time for the Basilica’s re-consecration.
