Custom Aluminum Ladder Fabrication for OLV National Shrine & Basilica
At General Welding & Fabricating, we take pride in building what others can only imagine—and sometimes, what others need built to complete incredible projects. One of those recent projects was the restoration of the iconic copper dome at the Our Lady of Victory (OLV) National Shrine & Basilica in Lackawanna, NY.
This historic site, rich in architectural beauty and religious significance, recently underwent a major restoration led by Schneider Architectural Services and Guard Construction. When their team needed a ladder that was not only durable but also lightweight enough for use on a sensitive copper dome, they came to us.
The answer? Custom aluminum fabrication.

Why Aluminum?
Aluminum was the perfect material for this job. It’s strong, corrosion-resistant, and, most importantly, much lighter than steel. On a job like this—where every pound counts and safety is everything—a custom aluminum ladder provided the perfect balance of strength and maneuverability.
Precision-Built for Safety and Fit
Our team engineered the ladder to exact specifications, ensuring it could be securely used on the dome without damaging the structure. Every weld, every angle, every bracket was crafted with precision. This wasn’t just a ladder—it was a specialized tool designed for a specific purpose, and built to perform.
Proud to Be Part of Buffalo’s Restoration Legacy
We’re honored to have played a role in the preservation of one of Western New York’s most cherished landmarks. The next time you look up at the OLV dome, know that behind that beautiful copper shine is the quiet support of craftsmanship you can trust.
You dream it, we build or repair it!
